2cy Yellow-legged Gull / Larus michahellis, Westkapelle - sea dike (The Netherlands) on 21 October 2008
Ringcode: M010408, there is no ring data of this bird. This 2cy Yellow-legged Gull with a Sempach ring from Switzerland has finish their complete moult; all primaries(p10 is fully grown), secondaries and rectrices are second generation feathers. Now they start the partial autumn moult; note the relative low number of new grey adult-like scapulars and coverts(probably fourth generation feathers) for the end of Oktober, the most obvious replacements took place in the upper tertial(tt2), some inner median and greater coverts. Note also the completely worn fringes of the upper tertial(tt1),the fine dark streaking on the head(mostly on crown and nape), the dark eye-mask, the coarser dark spotting on hind neck and breast-sides and the dark scalloped pattern on the fresh whitish under-wing coverts. The color of the legs is fleshy without yellowish hue and the dark eye start to turn pale with yellowish iris. The last two pictures are taken on 22 Oktober 2008 at the same place.
